Learning to Live Through Depression

Depression has become an epidemic in modern times. Even the huge cost required to resolve them. In Britain, one in four people suffer from depression. More than 30 million antidepressant prescriptions issued by doctors each year.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, the cause of depression can stem from family problems, trauma, excessive anxiety, stress, chronic financial problems as well.

Apart from the adverse effects of depression, some experts even see positive opportunities to improve patient quality of life. The negative effects of depression can be life-changing experience that will be more positive. Make those who experienced it work harder, more resistant to the exam, and more creative.

Depression can actually be an experience that can teach someone about how to survive. This is an evolutionary survival mechanism that helps a person facing life crises. Depression will force people to learn to assess priorities.

Everyone needs to make ends meet, need to foster self-confidence, and mutual love in order to become part of social groups. “Sometimes we can learn to do that through the pain of depression,” says Dr Paul Keedwell, psychologist and psychiatrist from Cardiff University.

Supported a study in the Netherlands, some researchers analyzed the impact of depression in 165 people. Researchers look at how they cope with life stress issues before and after mental disorders.

Researchers hope to find patients with chronic depressive condition due to bad experiences, and know how they struggled to overcome the problem of living and survive.

In fact, depression is experienced by most people to have more vitality. Can enhance social life and better performance in the workplace.

Professor Peter Kinderman, a member of the British Psychological Society, said the mild to moderate depression can have a positive impact and should not be regarded as a medical complaint but as a normal reaction to life.

“We know that when someone is depressed it is completely different from their normal state,” he said. “But that does not mean abnormal. That’s part of life.”

Depression can be very useful, if the conditions are still in early stages of mild to moderate. Such as a breakup or the loss of loved ones. It can act as a catalyst to re-evaluate what’s important in life.

Marjorie Wallace, founder of the mental health charity SANE, said that depression is a form of ‘malignant sadness’ that can torture and destroy. But for some people, depression can be of encouragement to live. When they began to realize that can not give in to these conditions, they will say, “I have to survive”.
